My parents have always loved antiques. The same parents that scored other people's trash on big dump day. Click HERE for that fun post. Growing up my sister and I were drug to antique stores where they looked at each and every artifact in the place. Even when we were on vacation they would somehow find these antique places and we would beg and plead for them to please just leave us in the car. As we got older they obliged.
Turns out I like antiques now. Guess that is about like the trash digging. I haven't been to an antique store in quite sometime, but yesterday I found myself in one, searching for that special and unique something for my sister for Christmas. Sorry Sara, I did not find it so you will have to wait until your birthday. When I walked in I was a little overwhelmed and I thought to myself, What was my gameplan going to be? How was I going to make my way through this place so that I didn't miss anything? My childhood came rushing back and I remember that disgruntled 12 year old slumped in the back of a blue station wagon pouting, while her parents browsed antique stores. I had to smile at that.
As I walked along I began to think of my grandmother. She occasionaly works at that very antique mall and I found myself wishing she were there with me to show me where all the coolest treasures were and to tell me if it was priced right or not. She always knows the things I like. Then, I realized I was just missing her altogether and I got sad that I don't see any of my grandparents as much as I used to or as much as I would like to. Then, the tears came. I hope no one saw me. I guess ever since I had children I have just been so consumed in my own family that I haven't opened my eyes enough to others. Some may say, well, that's how life is, but I want it to be different. I want to visit with my grandparents more often and hear their stories and learn about their lives more. I want them to know how very special they are to me and how very much I love them. So, this year that is going to change with me. I am going to make an effort. I am also going to make something really cool. So stayed tuned to find out what it is.

Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving was a lot of fun, but a whirlwind. On Thanksgiving Day we ate at my parents house. This year it was just us. My Uncle and his family were supposed to come too, but my Aunt got sick. We still had fun. The food was SO yummy! Thanks Momma. We had a very relaxing afternoon. We watched football and looked at the Black Friday ads and contemplated shopping the next day. Don't know what we were thinking.
Mckenzee caught her first fish that evening out of my parent's pond with her PawPaw. It was a catfish. She was SO excited when she ran in the house to tell us that she could barely get the words out. "Momma! Daddy! Maimee! I got a fish!" She used her whole little excited self to tell us. We went outside and started firing pictures of them and taking video. At one point she looked at the fish and said, "him so cuuute."
Later that evening Chris and I left the kids there and went home to work on the house for a couple of hours. We were going to be hosting the next day for his family. We got a lot done and went and picked up the kids and got them to bed and took a break to check out some of the deals on the internet. We decided that it would be unrealistic for us to try to shop Black Friday and get ready for family to come over at 11 the next day, but we did make one midnight online purchase for the kids for Christmas.
Riley woke up about 12:30 and I went to feed him and Chris fell asleep on the couch. I ended up falling asleep in the chair with Riley and woke up about 1:45am. That's when things went downhill. I hadn't made the dressing yet so I got started on that and Chris started working on some more house things. About 2:30am I remembered that I was completely out of contact solution and couldn't take out my contacts. So, Chris went to Walmart to get me some. When he got back he said there were already people lined up for the Black Friday deals. We finished the dressed and it was a little after 3am by then so we decided just to go ahead and put the Turkey on so we didn't have to get up in a couple of hours. Chris proceeded to deal with all that inside mess and I prepared the roasting bag and pan. Then, we buttered the thing and stuck it in. At that point our garbage disposal went out. Great. We went to bed and got up the next day and pulled off a good Thanksgiving. Everyone brought such tasty sides and we had a really good time.
On Saturday we had another Thanksgiving to attend at my Aunt and Uncle's house. It was nice and I enjoyed visiting with everyone. My grandmother handed out some large checks and everyone was wowed! I am planning to go on a shopping spree for myself, but I am not being too hasty because if I do I'll head to Target and buy 5 of the same shirt in different colors or stock up on Old Navy activewear, when what I really need is some cute versatile things that I can feel like a hot Momma in. So, I am looking and thinking and going to make some wise purchases.
On Sunday we had our Sunday School class Thanksgiving. So many people came and we had a good time. Four Thanksgivings, four days in a row, was a bit of a beating and we didn't get our tree up and we were bummed about that. We didn't put it up the following weekend because we had Nana's birthday, Mckenzee's bell performance, Chris' company party, and Sara and I went to Riverdance. (All pics to come) So it wasn't until Dec 11th that our beautiful tree made it's appearance, but we are enjoying it now.
Below are some Thanksgiving pictures from Thanksgiving day. I failed to get pictures at any of the other Thanksgivings even though I brought the camera and I didn't get a picture of my hubby. I'm sorry about that babe. I'll post about your backsplash to make up for it!

Duck Pond
We had so much fun feeding the ducks at Eagle Ranch Park the week of Thanksgiving. Who knew this park was so perfect and simple and 3 minutes away! The ducks are super friendly.....maybe a little too friendly. We had a great picnic lunch and enjoyed walking around the pond. Chris was off work for the whole week! We love it when he is home. We are thankful for his job and for his vacation time.

Some Christmas Tips from me
1. amazon.com
2. I store my Christmas books with my Christmas decorations. It is fun to unpack and revisit them and keeps them special
3. Do not engage in assembly on Christmas Eve. Hofstadter's Law: any task you're planning to complete will always take longer than expected - even when Hofstadter's law is taken into account. You will be up all night and then your kids will wake you up at the buttcrack of dawn and you will be sorry.
4. Make sure your house is clean by the 23rd so you can enjoy Christmas Eve.
5. For toys that are held hostage by millions of plastic twist ties and thread and other plastic contraptions that try their best to keep the toy in the package: Remove all said toy hostage holding equipment and then put the toy back in it's box and wrap it. This will save you a good 10 minutes per toy on Christmas morning when your kids are dancing with ants in their pants to have their new toy.
6. Charge your camera and video camera on Christmas Eve morning and make sure you have plenty of space.
7. Don't forget your pet's stocking
8. Have a goal to complete your shopping by the 20th, at the latest.
9. DO NOT GO TO WALMART ON CHRISTMAS EVE!! I REPEAT, DO NOT GO TO WALMART ON CHRISTMAS EVE!
10. When you decide on something you want...google and google and google some more. You can almost always find it cheaper if you keep looking.
11. Remember that Christmas is Jesus' birthday :)

Halloween
Aunt Sara and the kids and I went to the Flowermound Pumpkin Patch early in the day. The kids were not all that impressed with it, as Kenzee is never impressed with pumpkin patches. You can see how terribly excited the kids are in the pictures. Riley was terrified of the wooden cutouts so he had to be carried. It was muddy and actually kind of hot. I think everyone's favorite part was the train ride, but it was hard to tell. Chris worked on installing our new tile backsplash (pictures to come) while we were gone. He is banned from attending Pumpkin Patches for bad behavior and this year was Mckenzee's last chance. She has exhibited just as much bad pumpkin patch behavior as her father, but I gave her one extra chance because of her age. I think I may have to accept the fact that pumpkin patches are just not our thing.
