Just a Tad Ticked Off

So, we've been getting this recorded call from a credit card company that will remain nameless. When you answer or when your machine answers it just says something like We are sorry we could not speak to you personally please call us at this 1-800 number or visit us online blah blah blah. We don't have credit card balances so I am figuring this is one of those courtesy calls to say please let us lower your interest rate or something like that. Since we don't have a balance I don't care about the interest rate so I never call the stupid 1-800 number.

Until today when I get sick of them calling me and sick of hearing the recorded woman's voice go across my machine.

This is a card that I opened before Chris went to Israel so he would be able to keep all of his work charges separate from our checking account for easy reimbursement and since he spent a buttload of money in expensive Israel I am glad we did. Anyway, when he returned home he submitted his expense report, got reimbursed and went online and paid off the card before we even received a bill.

So, when I call them today it of course is an automated phone chick. I don't do autmated phone chicks. So, I immediately begin pushing zero until I mess her up and she says she is going to connect me with a representative. Ah, thank you.

Representative from India answers. He asks for my phone number, my name, and my password. My password...hmmmm..what could this be? He prompts me for my pets name and I am able to get it right. He asks who I am calling for and I tell him Chris Roberts. He then asks me if I know Chris Roberts. Pause while I silently punch his face for stupidity. At this point I know I won't get far because even though I can tell them my husband's every move, every account number, social security number, driver's licence number, every number that could ever identify him and what he ate for dinner last night I know they won't allow me to access his credit card account. I want to scream at them....I'm the money woman over here...my husband couldn't even tell you how much is in our checking account.

Then, I tell him that I am calling to get my name off the phone list. He brings up my account and says okay I can help you with that, but first I want to tell you that you aren't liable for any debt on this account. One heartbeat lost. What? I ask. There shouldn't be ANY debt on this account we don't use this card.

He proceeds to tell me there was a $27 finance charge and two $15 late fees. Heartbeat gained. I had already imagined someone had charged up thousands of dollars on this card.

To which I respond then how come I have never received a bill??!!!!

He tells me they have been sending statements. Well, I get the mail and I have not received any said statements. Furthermore, there shouldn't have been any finance charge because we paid the balance within a week of the charges before the billing cycle even ended and haven't used the card since.

He tells me he is sorry, but my husband will have to call, but he will make a note on the account for me. Gee thanks.

So, I call Chris and he is able to log in online and see that this alleged finance charge is an international fee that they charged to us just because we used the card internationally. We paid the bill on the 9th of October and this charge showed up on the 17th.....and no bill.

I am frustrated that they would allow me to activate this account and let them know it would be used in Israel and get all that set up, but they can't let me deal with $50 worth of a balance. Plus, this automated chick that has been calling should have been saying there is a PROBLEM with your account. If we have been late on this account for almost three months now, I would like a personal phone call by a real person.

pisser. the end.

When we paid off our last credit card bill we thought we were done too. Except there was a $4.00 left over fee from who knows what that was outstanding. Well, I didn't realize it until I got a phone call from the "please call us back automated lady as well." They TRIED to charge me the $45 late fee and I said over my dead body. Lucky me I got a nice person and it was waived.

There is no such thing as customer service anymore. I feel your frustration. Funny how they would certainly allow Chris's credit to affect your credit even in the event of a divorce but in no way can you do anything on the account while your married.

How frustrating. You certainly don't need that kind of stress these days. They might let Chris add you to his account. I know Eric's credit card company offered to let him add me, since I handle the business in our family, too.
